Great South Bay Music Festival Recap!

Well, Saturday has long past but our memories of playing at the Great South Bay Music Festival will stay with us, always. It was a beautiful day, although maybe a little hot on stage-not a problem though, we loved every minute of it. The sound engineer, Don totally rocked! See, I believe sound engineers really make or break the experience of the music. and Don really made it! Thank you for that! And thank you to WEHM for giving us this opportunity to play for our fans and for the new fans we’ve just met through this show! There’s something to say about hundreds of people coming together to listen and support local music! We just can’t say THANK YOU enough!

Next show: The Vail in Riverhead this Thursday, July 19th! $5 at the door, we go on at 9pm!

And for those of you in the Patchogue area, we’ll be playing 89 North on August 9th!

Come on down to our shows and dance your fannies off!

SO much news!

Well all, we’d like to inform you that you can now purchase our debut album on Itunes! Pretty sweet huh? We’re excited about it!

On the show front: We’ve been doing everything in our power to book some really great shows and so far it’s worked! We just recently had an amazing show at KJ Farrells in Bellmore thanks to our buddy Don Nostrand, Sound Guy Extraordinaire! We have a show coming up, March 24th at the Velvet Lounge in Stony Brook with our friends, Sunrise Skyline, which we’re also uber stoked about! And a few more being cooked up: A show in June at The Trash Bar in Williamsburg, with possible guests and our friends, Stately Ghosts, and some others that are tentative at the moment! We’ll keep you updated on all shows via Facebook, our band website (www.everythinggrey.com) and our trusty tumblr account, Grey Noise!

On the Noise front: We’ve been in a writing frenzy! So far we’ve added three more tunes to our long list of songs and we continue to focus on being creative (and funky) at our weekly band practice! They’ll most likely be perfected and ready for our upcoming shows so when you’re there, keep an ear out for them!

Well that’s enough information thrown at you for now. Once again, this is Jacquie Lee, vocalist, signing off. Rock hard and rock on.

Medicine for the soul.

“If I ever really felt depressed, I would just start putting on all my old records that I played as a kid, because the whole thing that really lifted me then still lifted me during those other times. It was good medicine for me, and it still does that for me when I put something on. Isn’t it wonderful that we’ve got all that good medicine? I think it’s got to be all part of our DNA, this mass communication through music. That’s what it is. It’s got to be, hasn’t it? Music is the one thing that has been consistently there for me. It hasn’t let me down.” - Jimmy Page on the power of music told to TheScotsman in 2010.

Jimmy Page has never really been a talker because most of his talking extends through his music but when he does speak, he speaks truth. Music is medicine. It helps detox our minds and refresh our souls. It enhances our emotions and gives us hope. It broadens our senses and becomes our connection to the world around us. Being a musician, I would say that if I could achieve anything, it would be to heal someone with my art.

On a side note:

Our album is ALMOST finished! We are very happy with how it is turning out! All artwork is done by members of the band, in particular, Liz Degen (drums), Chris Salucci (bass) and Matt Donnelly (guitar, vocals). And soon it will be available to you! We’ll keep you posted.

Also, we have a couple of shows coming up!

Monthly All-Acoustic Show at SoHo Playhouse on October 14th at 10pm, $5 to get in! Should be a great time.

Don Audio Showcase Session at the Brickhouse Brewery and Restaurant on November 5th, $5 cover and we go on at 10pm!

Hope to see you there!

Killing two birds with one stone.

Well last weekend was definitely a busy one for Everything Grey. On Friday we had our acoustic show at the Huron Club and then on Sunday we were invited to play the Peck Fest in Dix Hills. Firstly, the Huron Club was fun to play, we had a few new comers in the crowd. Unfortunately for me, I was ill all last week with a flu-like sickness and mid-set I couldn’t exactly sing anymore. By the end of the night I had lost my voice almost entirely but at least I still got to sing a bit. Even though the club had a relaxing atmosphere, we seemed a little more timid on the stage than usual. We realize as a band that being creative is also a learning process. We grow with each show we play. Some shows we feel better about than others, but that comes with the gig, no pun intended. What makes a good musician (and this can be true for all forms of creativity and I guess life in general) is the ability to look at yourself critically enough to be willing to work out the mistakes, without hindering your own sense of self-worth.

Secondly, Peck Fest was A LOT of fun! We could only do an acoustic set but it was definitely worth playing. Peck Fest is basically a BIG celebration of great music. The bands that played were so talented and you could tell each member loved playing. Allie, Matt and I went up, felt comfortable on stage, did our set and was even asked for an encore! Now that’s an accomplishment I’d say. We received a lot of praise when we got off as well as a few suggestions on where to play next! All in all, it was a great day, we had a great time and it really rallied up the insecurities we might have had from Friday night’s show.

The Huron Club/ SoHo Playhouse

The Huron Club/ SoHo Playhouse has graciously allowed Everything Grey to play every second Friday of the month for the passed few months. This month’s show (the month of Sept), however, we will be playing THIS Friday, September 2nd at 10pm to 12pm, $5 to get in. This venue has become home to us during these passed few months. They’ve welcomed us with open arms and open ears and allowed us to develop our music into something very different and very real. The candlelit tables sooth the atmosphere while our music echos clearly, bouncing off each atom at a time. We always enjoy the Huron Club because it’s a time to be with family and friends, and where we can TRULY be ourselves, out in the open, and as vulnerable as possible. Come on down, grab a drink, sit back and relax while we serenade you with our sweet melodies. ;)

About

Everything Grey embodies a modern sound of 1960’s rock/folk/blues music centering on vocal harmonies and powerful instrumental arrangements in the vein of Fleetwood Mac, CSNY, and The Allman Brothers. This blog will be a glimpse of what a group of musicians do to become an influential and contending player in the music world.
